“As its name suggests, Mentor-on-the-Lake is nestled on the shore of Lake Erie. It is right next to the much larger suburb Mentor and shares multiple services with it including the postal service and school systems. Mentor-on-the-Lake is approximately 25 miles east-northeast of Cleveland, and a 30-minute drive away. It is in Lake County, Ohio, was officially incorporated as a city in 1971, and is considerably smaller in size (1.65 square miles) and population (7,391) than its nearby namesake.

Mentor-on-the-Lake is unique in that 99% of the land is already developed, and there are only 7 acres left that could be used for office or business use. The only true industry in the city is Aqua Ohio, a private water utility company.  

Mentor-on-the-Lake is a great place to raise a family, as it has a dense suburban feel, a low crime rate (59% below the state average), police and fire services are extremely close to everyone’s home, and the median home value is $133,200. Currently, there are about 2,600 single-family homes, and 700 apartments and condominiums in Mentor-on-the-Lake. 

There’s no shortage of outdoor activities either, especially in the summer when the weather is hot. There are two parks located right on Lake Erie, Overlook Beach Park, and Mentor Beach Park. Overlook Beach park has playground equipment for children, along with benches, a gazebo, and picnic tables to sit and watch the sunset.
