“Kirtland, Ohio is a suburb of Cleveland and is located 23 miles east of the city. It’s a small rural town consisting of 6,822 people. The first-ever Mormon temple was constructed in Kirtland in 1836, and the town served as the base for the Latter-Day Saint movement from 1831 to 1837. The town was named after Turhand Kirtland, who was a Trumbull County judge and a veteran of the American Revolutionary War. He was a revered figure during that time and was lauded for his courage, ingenuity, and honesty.
Today, Kirtland is considered one of the top places to live in the state of Ohio. Its safety and excellent public schools make it a terrific place for families. Residents describe it as small, lovely, homey, and quiet and note that it has a good sense of community. The median home value is $296,100, and the citizens are intelligent, as a higher percentage of them possess advanced degrees than the national average.
Despite its small size, there is a lot to do in Kirtland. The main attraction is the Holden Arboretum, which, at 3,600 acres, is one of the largest botanical gardens in the country. Multiple tours are available in the spring. Then there’s the Historic Kirtland Village, which pays homage to the town’s Mormon history with structures that are preserved, or that replicate the architecture of the 1830s. The Lake Metroparks Farmpark is a great place for kids as it is home to many kinds of animals including horses, sheep, chickens, pigs, and rabbits. It also provides agricultural demonstrations like how cows are milked, how cheese is made, and how sheep are herded.” – Kirtland
